😀LIKE vs AS

👉Like:

TRADUCCION: similar to; the same as.

 

ESTRUCTURA: VERB + LIKE + NOUN / PRONOUN.

 

• v He speaks like a native speaker.
•    He speaks similar to a native speaker
• v You look like him.
• v Stop behaving like animals!

 

 👉As:

TRADUCCION: the way; in the same way; in the same condition.

 

ESTRUCTURA: AS + SUBJECT + VERB.

v Nobody sings as she does.
  Nobody sings in the same way she does
v They went to the party as they were.
v As I said before, we have to get ready.

 

 

Note: AS with 'the way' or 'in the same way' and maintain the same meaning

 

 

👍Like vs As:

Use:like	example
1:Like” es una preposición que significa “parecido a” o “lo mismo de”:   VERB + LIKE + NOUN / PRONOUN.	v She dances like a professional. Baila como una profesional v Like me, my friend John loves the cinema    Como yo, a mi amigo John le encanta el cine v Michael speaks English like a native.    Michael habla inglés como un nativo
2.Se utiliza “like” para decir que algo es típico de alguien	v It’s so like Ben to be late.     Es tan típico de Ben llegar tarde v It’s just like Helen to laugh in uncomfortable situations.   Es tan típico de Helen reír en situaciones incómodas.
3.Cuando se utiliza “like” con el verbo “look” significa “parecer” o “parecerse”:	v I look like my mother.    Me parezco a mi madre v It looks like it is going to rain.    Parece que va a llover v It looks like it is going to rain.    Parece que va a llover.
4.También utilizamos “like” para presentar ejemplos:	v I play many sports like football, basketball and tennis. Juego muchos deportes como fútbol, baloncesto y tenis v Some people, like my friend Carol, don’t like to travel. A algunas personas, como mi amiga Carol, no les gusta viajar

 

Use:as	example
1.“As” significa “en la misma manera” o “en la misma condición de”   AS + SUBJECT + VERB.	v She worked hard on the project, as she always does. Trabajó duramente en el proyecto, como lo hace siempre. v Nobody paints as Picasso did. Nadie pinta como Picasso lo hizo.
2. Se utiliza *"as" en frases comparativas de inferioridad e igualdad*. Ver la lección de los comparativos y superlativos para más información.	v John can run as fast as Peter. John puede correr tan rápido como Peter. v My dad doesn’t have as much energy as he used to have. Mi padre no tiene tanta energía como solía tener.
3. Al igual que “like”, se usa “such as” para presentar ejemplos.	v I play many sports, such as football, basketball and tennis. Juego a muchos deportes como el fútbol, baloncesto y tenis. v Some people, such as my friend Carol, don’t like to travel. Algunas personas, como a mi amiga Carol, no les gusta viajar.
4. Cuando es una preposición, “as” significa el papel o profesión de algo o alguien	v She started working as a teacher 5 years ago. Empezó a trabajar como profesora hace 5 años. v We used to live here, but now we are using the apartment as a painting studio. Vivíamos aquí antes, pero ahora estamos utilizando el piso como un estudio de pintura
5. Se utiliza “as” en algunas expresiones.	v As you know, this is not the first time your son has been a problem in class v As expected, Ben was late for class again today v As I said, I hope this is the last time you are late v Here is the report, as requested.
Note: “As” can be used as a conjunction or a preposition.

😀INFERIORITY

👉LESS:

We use intensifiers (less) to make comparative adjectives weak.

 

Less+ NOUN+ than...

Traducción: Menos + adjective/adverb/NOUN + que

 

v In Peru there are less parks than in Colombia.

v Peru has less population than Colombia.

 

👉A LOT / MUCH /A BIT

We use intensifiers (a lot / much /a bit) to make comparative adjectives strangers.

v Lima is noiser than Huanuco

v Bob is much richer than I am.

EQULITY 01

👉Comparativo as … as en inglés

Significado: “as…as” significa “tan … como”

Usos: Usamos esta expresión para decir que dos cosas, personas, animales, etc. son parecidos en algún aspecto

También podemos utilizar as…as para decir que dos cosas, personas, lugares son diferentes si usamos el negativo.

She is not as pretty as her sister

Carla no es tan bonita como su hermana

 

Estructura:

Sujeto + verbo TO BE + as + adjetivo + as + complemento.

Sujeto + verbo + as + adverbio + as + complemento.

 

She is as tall as her sister

Carla es tan alta como su hermana

 

My horse can run as fast as a car

Mi caballo puede correr tan rápido como un coche

 

He doesn't play as well as me

El no juega tan bien como yo

 

They are as tall as their father. 

Ellos son tan altos como su padre

 

Nota: como lo puedes observar en el segundo ejemplo es posible usar más de un ADJETIVO O ADVERBIO

 

👉AS MUCH AS

Significado: “as much as” significa “ tanto como”

Usos: Se usa cuando los sustantivos no se pueden cuantificar (no contables)

 

Estructura:

Verb+ as much + sustantivo incontable + as + complemento

 

She talks as much as a parrot.

 Habla tanto como un loro.

Her car costs as much as mine. 

Su auto costó tanto como el mío.

He eats as much as an elephant. 

El come tanto como un elefante.

  

Verb+ not + as much + sustantivo incontable + as + complemento

 

I don’t have as much money as you.

 No tengo tanto dinero como tu.

 

👉AS  MANY AS 

Significado: “as much as” significa “tanto como”

Usos: Igualmente, para este caso se aplica la misma lógica, pero para los sustantivos que sí son contables (la mayoría) y que tienen plural.

Estructura:

Verb+ as many + sustantivo contable (plural) + as + complemento

 

You have as many friends as me.

No tienes tantos amigos como yo.

Mary has as many friends as Peter.

María no tiene tantos amigos como Pedro.

 

Verb not + as many + sustantivo contable (plural) + as + complemento

 

You don't have as many friends as me.

No tienes tantos amigos como yo.

Mary doesn’t have as many friends as Peter.
